Line Announces New Alaska Birding Cruises and Land Tours
January 22, 2003
This year Glacier Bay Cruiseline has two departures for bird enthusiast. The Line invites birding enthusiasts to join the MV Wilderness Discoverer on June 1 and June 22 as special experts in the field of ornithology sail onboard to enhance their already comprehensive naturalist program. "We sail through some of the world's best birding locations. Our shallow-draft small cruise ships are perfectly adapted to sail where the larger lines can't
up close to the wildlife
our flexible itineraries allow us to make the most of the prime birding season in Alaska," states Megan Mckinney-Rickey, Marketing Manager. Prices for the 7-night cruises start at $2,810 per person.
"We have scouted specialists in fields that directly relate to our product. Now our guests can exercise their bodies during the day and their minds in the evening with lectures," states Mckinney-Rickey. Joining the Line June 1st is Roger Lederer, Professor of Biological Studies at the California State University, Chico and author of two field guides of birds. Lederer has traveled to more than 50 countries for research, speaking engagements, worked with environmental organizations and has published a text in ecology and over thirty research papers. June 22nd, features John Kricher, Professor of Biology at Wheaton College and noted lecturer on birding and ornithology. Kircher has authored over a hundred papers on ornithology and is a recognized migratory birding expert for species in such diverse areas as Belize, Galapagos and Alaska. The June 22 departure is also part of the Family Cruise Program offering children under 18 to sail at a 50% discount allowing entire families to discover Alaska at substantial savings.
In Addition the Line has teamed with NatureAlaska Tours-one of Alaska's top birding tour companies-to offer seamless land extensions to these two special cruise departures. The 4- and 5-night land options allow enthusiasts to explore an entirely different section of Alaska-and two unique birding locations: Alaska's famed Kenai Fjords National Park or above the Arctic Circle. Price for the May 28th 4-night Kenai Peninsula tour is $1,595. Price for the June 17th 5-night Arctic Circle Tour is $ 2,295. "I am delighted to be working with Glacier Bay Cruiseline. Our like-minded companies complement each other perfectly. This combination of small-ship cruise and intimate birding land tours are undoubtedly the best option in Alaska for serious birders," states Dan Wetzel, owner of NatureAlaska Tours and recognized Alaska birding expert.
