PRESS RELEASE
GLACIER BAY CRUISELINE INTRODUCES 12 CULTURE CRUISE DEPARTURES IN 2003
October 11, 2002
Seattle, WA. Glacier Bay Cruiseline will devote 12 departures in 2003 to authentically exploring the Native cultures and traditions of Southeast Alaska.
"Being a Native-owned cruise line and Official Concessionaire of Glacier Bay National Park, we are uniquely qualified to offer this type of program in Alaska," states Brian McKiernan, Director of Marketing, Reservations and Sales. "Without a doubt this will be the most comprehensive-and authentic-cultural cruise program afloat, combining our popular active cruising style with active cultural programs. Onboard, there will be plenty of opportunity for learning that's hands-on, interactive, rewarding and fun."
The culturally focused departures feature adventures such as kayaking, beach hikes and remote island exploration along with port calls to the Native villages of Hoonah, Metlakatla and the multi-cultural ports of Wrangell and Petersburg. The itinerary features a full day's exploration of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. "Our unique relationship as an Official Concessionaire of Glacier Bay National Park allows our guests the opportunity to overnight aboard vessel while in the Park," says McKiernan. "This is something no other cruise line offers and it's especially rewarding, as this is the ancestral home of our Tlingit shareholders. In 1879, noted explorer John Muir asked the Tlingit to guide him through this area. Today we are honored to continue the legacy of guiding modern day explorers. "
The seven-night itinerary will embark in both Ketchikan and Juneau and feature convenient Saturday departures. Prices start at $2,520 per person and include all adventure activities, kayak lessons, equipment and active shore excursions. Guests cruising in May and September will also receive free round-trip air from Seattle to Alaska.
